The Mystery of Divine Encounters

O Daniel, I have now come out to give you insight and understanding.
(Daniel 9:22)
We are told to seek God, not experiences. That is the walk of faith. It is God's place to come to us when He deems it best; be it an answer to prayer, an affirmation of truth, or an experience.
Caution! It is wise not to seek experiences lest they become self-induced, or worse, open the door to false spirits. Should God elect to grant you a divine encounter, it will not come because you sought it, but because God sent it; such as when God sent Gabriel to give Daniel insight and understanding.
Meet Ben. He is a friend who recently had, much to his surprise, a divine encounter. Ben is a warm-spirited man, widely read and fresh with ideas. He is faithful to his family and church. He sings in the choir, often receiving solo parts.
Ben sat with his 95-year-old mother, singing softly to her as she faded from this world. Then, the inevitable came. She passed into eternity as Ben shed tears of sorrow and of joy.
Ben's perspective was good. Although he desired for this moment to never come, he was at peace when it did; after all, 95 is a ripe-old age and she still had good wit.
This faithful son happily agreed to sing at her funeral service. It was there that an unexpected divine encounter awaited. Singing before people did not make him nervous. Anticipating singing at his mother's service was not stressful. He began the song with calm clarity.
Nearing the end of the song, however, he felt himself trembling. He did everything in his power to throw it off and steady himself, but soon discovered he could not. In fact, he was not able to finish the song.
The audience sympathized, thinking that he was grieving his mother's death. But that was not the case. No one would be able to fully understand. A reality of the eternal world had drawn close to Ben, and he responded as did many of whom we read about in the Bible - he trembled! An awareness had opened to him that no observer could share. It was between him and God alone, leaving him with a lingering wonderment. The encounter was beyond words. There was no comparison with which to liken it.
As he shared his experience with me, the transforming impact still lingered. His spirit was quite mellow, his voice sounded reverent. A divine encounter had come to him and he was profoundly shaken by it. The memory of it will last for the rest of his life. If a brush with a divine encounter can have this effect, one can only imagine what it is like when upon one's final breath, they cross into the eternal, the divine, eternal rest (or, the completion of being in a sinless environment with God).
Just know that God will come to you when He knows it is wise and necessary. In the meantime, devote your life to seeking God by faith.
