YOU ARE THE LIGHT

Jesus said, "You are the light of the world." Think about what this means as you read today's edition of FaithWalk: Courage for the Journey.

You are the Light

You are the light of the world.
(Matthew 5:14)

   Go to the mountains on a dark night where your vision is unimpeded by streetlights. Contemplate the deep blackness of space. Light rays are racing past your eyes at 186,000 miles per second yet you see nothing until those light rays illumine an object.

        Few things impact us as strongly as watching a huge harvest moon rising above the horizon, backdropped by a splash of stars. Without the reflecting light of the sun we would never see the moon.

        No one has ever seen God, but they saw His radiance (likeness) when Jesus was on earth. Today, the world sees it in you.

        Jesus used the analogy of light to teach your important role as a believer in the world. Much of the world is spiritually blind and cannot see either the source or reflection of light. Even spiritual leaders in the time of Jesus looked directly at the likeness ("express image") of God and called Him a liar, blasphemer and prince of devils. Their blindness did not dim His brightness. They simply did not allow His light to penetrate the scales covering their eyes. So, they tried to snuff it out on the cross.

Before He died, however, He said to all who had received His light, "You are the light of the world." Spiritually blind people will curse you as much as they cursed Jesus. Nothing will change that until the eyes of their souls are opened by the Spirit of God.

        As we approach the end time, spiritual blindness is increasing. Shadows from misunderstanding appear as dangerous enemies. Disrespect has poisoned rhetoric. Words have become weapons. We are watching the disintegration of nations because spiritual blindness is self-destructive. It is powerless to build a better world.

        It is in this hour that Jesus points at you and says, "You are the light of the world." You are the lightkeeper amid the storm. Show the way. Preach the Gospel.

There is no hope until blinded eyes are opened, and that happens only by understanding and receiving the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is when a person repents of sin at the cross that God removes His sin as far as the east is from the west and plants a new nature in him or her. Only then do all things become new. Only then does the light of truth begin to glow in and through them.

You may feel like a little, insignificant star shining alone amid a vast darkness. Shine on. The darkness cannot overcome you any more than it could overcome Jesus. Trying to extinguish His light on the cross, they enlarged it!

Soon the entire world will see the perfect Light when Jesus Christ returns. You have no idea how many eyes are fixed on you through this present darkness. Shine on!
