THE EL MATADOR STORY

A friend recently requested a copy of The El Matador Story that I wrote in February of 2016. Knowing the dangers of this hour, I want to reprint it for you in today’s edition of FaithWalk: Courage for the Journey.
THE EL MATADOR STORY

…and that all this assembly may know that the Lord saves not with sword and spear.
For the battle is the Lord's, and he will give you into our hand.”
(1 Samuel 17:47)

Intercession is the need of the hour. Here is a vital analogy intercession. Imagine a father whose children ignore his warnings not to play in the center of a bull ring. A surly bull enters, snorts and digs at the ground in preparation to charge. The father races between the bull and his children. That is intercession. The children may escape, but the father may perish.

The father can only be saved by someone of greater ability to fight the bull. Thus enters, El Matador. He strides with poise, stops beside the father, arches his back, lures the bull with a red cape and points his sword downward at the bull. Staring confidently at the agitated beast he asks the father, "Are your children safely out of the arena?"

"Yes."

"Then stand still. The battle is mine. I will fight the bull." Now there is hope for both the father and children to survive unscathed.

Intercession means standing in prayer between heaven's throne and the bullish hierarchy of hell. The "bull" named Lucifer is a merciless murderer and liar. Unlike an animal, he knows how humans think. He cunningly produces fear be intimidation. His foreboding presence empties the arena of a sense of hope. Doom drops like a curtain.

Intercession is war. During such ominous hours, you must stand firm by raw faith, confident that "El Matador" [i.e. Jesus Christ] will deliver you. Paul describes the victor's strength: "Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us…" (Ephesians 3:20-21).

Paul was not a euphoric novice, but rather a man who said he "fought with beasts" at Ephesus. He is most likely referencing the demonic powers that battled against him through Demetrius the silversmith, an evil man who stirred great trouble against him (Acts 19).

Paul reported how he prayed: "For this reason I bow my knees before the Father…that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being…" (Ephesians 3:14-16).

Paul called upon the Great Victor who possesses all-surpassing power, to give the Ephesian believers strength to withstand the threatening bull. He knew that the One who overcame the world, the flesh and the devil stands like El Matador beside His people in the arena. You need not fear. The bull cannot defeat Him.

When you are trapped in the center of a bull ring, and the monster of hell is preparing to charge, fear not! As you pray, the Great Intercessor steps between you and the devil to inflict defeat upon your bullish enemy from hell. Always remember, the battle is the Lord's.
