THE STRENGTH OF LIGHT

Hopefully, no one is foolish enough to pound nails in the dark. Read today’s edition of FaithWalk: Courage for the Journey.

Read Carefully
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
(John 8:12 ESV)

If you are going to hammer nails, it is strongly suggested that you do that in the light. Otherwise, you will have the most swollen thumb on earth.

The same is true of our travel through life, although a great number of people try it. John wrote, “And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil” (John 3:19).

“Lady justice” is blindfolded so that she seeks nothing but truth. It is the light of truth that either condemns or exonerates the accused.

Darkness is the haunt of lies, distortions, evil deeds, foul intentions, and that’s just for starters. It promises to cover our efforts to live as we choose while we ignore the ways of God.

Many feel they are protected by the dark, but that is a myth. From the first sunrise until now, light has overpowered the darkness of night. At the Great White Throne of Judgment, the “Son” will rise and reveal the dark areas of the hearts of those who chose darkness rather than the "Light."

Those who felt secure walking in darkness will stand before the One who said, “I am the light of the world.” His words will be clear and eternally final, “I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness” (Matthew 7:23).

Those who have confessed their sins and sought to walk in the light of truth will hear Him say, “Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your Master” (Matthew 25:23).

Jesus began His ministry as the “Light of the world” in one of the darkest regions of earth—Zebulun and Naphtali in northern Israel. The prophet said, “the people dwelling in darkness have seen a great light, and for those dwelling in the region and shadow of death, on them a light has dawned” (Matthew 4:16).

Jesus will go to the darkest places on earth, including your heart and mine, to speak absolute truth. The book of John says that Jesus did not come to condemn the world but to save it through Himself, the Light of salvation!

If you are ready for that eternal transition, here is a prayer to help you get started,

“Dear God, thank You for sending Your Son as the Savior of the world. Thank You that He came to lead me into the light of salvation. On the basis that He died for me on the cross, I am trusting You to forgive me of all my sins. And I am asking for the power to live committed to You, obedient to Your will, from now until I meet You in heaven. I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.”
